The International Society for Laser Surgery and Medicine (ISLSM)
The International Society for Laser Surgery and Medicine (ISLSM) was founded in Tel Aviv [Israel] in 1975 on the initiation of Prof. Isaac Kaplan thus it was the first society of its kind of come into existence.
Since then many medical Laser societies both national and regional were formed many of whom are now associated with the ISLSM. The ISLSM holds its meetings every two years, each time in a different country. In 1977 the meeting was held in Dallas, Texas- chaired by Prof. Billie Aronoff. In 1979 Prof. Fritz Heppner hosted the meeting in Graz, Austria. In 1981 the meeting was held on Tokyo, Japan under the presidency of Prof. Kazuhiko Atsumi. The 1983 meeting was hosted by Prof. Hugh Beckman in Detroit, U.S.A. and it was decided to hold the 1987 meeting in Jerusalem, Israel thus celebrating the tenth anniversary. In 1987 Prof. Hofstetter hosted the meeting in Munich, Germany while in 1989 the meeting took place in Taipei, Taiwan under the presidency of Prof Ming Kao. The 1991 meeting was held in Los Angeles, U.S.A. and was hosted by Dr. Scott. In 1993 Prof. Narong Nimsakul held an outstanding meeting in Bangkok, Thailand which was followed in 1995 by the meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina hosted by Prof. Hugo Juri. The 1997 meeting, organized by Prof. Peter Ascher, was held in Rostok, Germany and the 1999 one was held in Havana, Cuba under the presidency of Prof Manual Cepero. In 2001 Prof. Krishna Rau held the meeting in Chennai, India, and this was followed in 2003 when Prof. Hofstetter hosted the last meeting in Munich, Germany. The next one in 2005 will be held in Tokyo, Japan under Prof. Kato. The purpose of the ISLSM is to promote the application of lasers in Surgery and Medicine and it’s membership is open to MD’s, PhD’s nurses, dentists, podiatrists etc. The official Journal is ----------------------- The present executive committee is comprised of --------------------- |
